“This is my favourite street in the Northern Quarter, for pubs, bars, places to eat, quirky shops and also the bizarre bits of architectural detail, such as the pineapple on top of a gable. This painting was from sketches made in the afternoon, when the sun was hitting the pink painted shop and I was thinking it might be time for a drop of beer”. Henry Martin
Henry Martin is a Manchester based artist, working in oil, acrylic and watercolour. In his work he seeks to promote the wonders of his adopted city. He likes that moment when direct sunlight hits a building, creating strong contrasts between light and shadow, as in the 1930 railway posters. He also likes the evening of colours at twilight. He has lived and worked in Manchester since 2000 and still finds something new, odd and fascinating each day.
